Abstract

Revolution in information generation and use especially in the health sector occasioned by communication technology evolution has radically continued to challenge and reshape the library environment and services generally. Medical libraries are not immune from this innocuous change. Medical libraries face additional challenges that are unique to the health care system. These challenges include continuous medical research on ever emerging health issues, health care policies, increasing consumer awareness, diverse information needs as well as new formats of documentation and dissemination. The paper maintains that medical library services would continue to be relevant but need to be revaluated in the present information age. The paper proffers continued education for librarians, maintaining hybrid collection, networking, partnerships, and improved use of web 2.0 technologies as ways to remain current and relevant in the digital age.
